We are witnessing the crisis of the long-standing culture of injustice, discrimination, and oppression around the world more acutely. Additionally, the climate crisis is destroying the Earth’s ecology. Those who already endure poverty, discrimination, and exploitation are more vulnerable to the climate crisis and are least able to cope with climate change and other crises. Besides, the climate crisis is making other crises like poverty and inequality more intense. Countless people have lost their lives and livelihoods.

The COP-28 is very important for us to accelerate our movement to establish climate justice and solve the crisis. In the weeks of COP-28 and beyond the conference we will highlight the various responsibilities and obligations of rich nations and large corporations to address climate change. At the same time, we will bring their failures into review. Our program will try to force them to take more necessary steps to combat climate change.

Based on the above context, Waterkeepers Bangladesh (WKB) along with Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) initiated the protest in 31 locations in Bangladesh to ensure climate justice. There are many other organizations, local and national, where co-organizing the event. Among them Brotee, CPRD, Equity BD, Sundarban O Upakul Surrakha Andolan, YouthNet for Climate Justice, Global Law Thinkers Society, NDF, and Bangladesh Kishok Federation. They were participating in organizing the event in Dhaka. The locations of the events across the country were: Dhaka, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona, Habiganj, Sylhet, Pirojpur, Gazipur, Panchagar, Jointapur, Bishwanath, Bogra, Mongla, Paikgacha, Satkhira, Khulna, Koyra, Barguna, Kuakata, Taltoli, Moheshkhali, Patharghata, Cox’s Bazar, Kutubdia, Pekua, Chatmohar, Baraigram, Gurudaspur and Rajshahi.
