Climate Justice Assembly 2023 in Bangladesh Official Meeting to Launch
On October 17th, a consortium of organizers, including Brotee Samaj Kallayan Sangstha, Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS), Stamford University Bangladesh, Center for Participatory Research and Development (CPRD), Coast Foundation, Global Law Thinkers Society (GLTS), Indigenous Peoples Development Services (IPDS), Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society (LEDARS), National River Alliance, Sundarban O Upakul Surrakha Andolan, Waterkeepers Bangladesh (WKB), and other co-organizers Green Cox’s Bazar Health and Environment Foundation, and various universities, as well as international co-organizers including Asian Peoples Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD), Asian Energy Network (AEN), 350. Asia, Institute of Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), Japan Center for Sustainable Environment and Society (JACSES), EarthJustice, Waterkeeper Alliance, Friends of the Earth (Asia Pacific), collectively convened an online meeting via Zoom. During this meeting, they reached an agreement to organize the Climate Justice Assembly 2023 in Bangladesh.
Mr. Sharif Jamil, a highly regarded environmentalist, initiated the Climate Assembly with the aim of providing a platform for the environmental movement and fostering collaboration between local and global organizations to achieve a more significant impact.
The meeting presided over by Ms. Sultana Kamal, who serves as the assembly’s convener, saw the active participation of community organizations and leaders from Bangladesh and other countries. Committees and sub-committees were formed to commence pre-program preparations.
Initially, the event was slated to take place at the Shiddheshwari Branch of Stamford University in Bangladesh.
Subsequently, preparations, including the selection of the logo, have been made for the official launch of the program.
